ABOUT
We celebrate nature and have considered ourselves very lucky to be able to share nature's beauty and creativity with everyone every day since 1980.
Our formula: the beauty of nature is the basis, to which we add human creativity. This creates the most amazing creations and environments. Our handwriting originated from our floral craft and grew into a creative company, a special estate and a breathtaking concept store.
We translate wishes and emotions into distinctive concepts. We think and speak in scents, colours and shapes, making special moments tangible and enhancing the value of every encounter. Everything we design and create is with admiration and respect for nature. Perhaps the best example of this is the Domain Oogenlust itself. When we started there in 2012, we set ourselves the goal of restoring 3 hectares of the estate to its original state, and anno now we can say that the estate has recovered and there has been a fourfold increase in insects and birds.
Our history
Marcel (1959) and Monique (1958) van Dijk both having trained as florists and a huge love of beautiful things from nature, they took over a flower shop in Veldhoven in 1980. With passion, entrepreneurial drive and a distinct vision of the flower trade, Oogenlust grew into a strong brand in the market. From artisanal flower shop to high-end player.
Initially, Oogenlust started in the Dorpstraat in Veldhoven, but due to large orders from the event industry, they moved to larger premises in Veldhoven's City-centre after a few years. An external warehouse was rented there because of all the large orders coming in from the event industry. A unique vision and style ensured increasing recognition. Monique took charge of Oogenlust's administration and PR. Gradually, as the team grew, everything related to Personnel & Organisation was added. Marcel and Monique complement each other perfectly. And that is perhaps the secret of their success.
Seven years later, they moved to industrial estate De Run, where a large warehouse, workshops, offices and a beautiful showroom were set up on the edge of the industrial estate. Fortunately, even private customers still know how to find them here. This proved to be a great success. In 2013, Oogenlust moved to domain Oogenlust in Eersel, a 5.5-hectare site in the countryside. Here, visitors can enjoy nature, hike and visit art exhibitions. There are also beautiful event locations at Domain Oogenlust. The shop offers unique products selected with care, a beautiful flower bouquet or plants.
Now, almost 45 years later, son Wim is taking over an increasing role in the company. Oogenlust continues to strive for ultimate beauty and high quality, appreciated by visitors and clients. Marcel and Monique are confident that Wim will continue to build on their dream.
Sustainability in projects
Our company wants to act as sustainably as possible in a not-so-sustainable market. In our projects, we rely as much as possible on our permanent stock of materials. Materials that we have newly made are designed and packaged in such a way that they are suitable for reuse. All greenery, from hanging plants to metre-high trees, is maintained on our own premises and under our own management.
Any waste material is taken back and separated into the different types of waste streams. The organic material is composted and reused.
When completing projects, we consciously choose suppliers and partners who have sustainability high on their agenda.
Sustainability on Domain Oogenlust
Domain Oogenlust, has become the first area in the Netherlands to receive VCA (Verified Conversation Area) certification from the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
We are in the process of returning much of the site to its original biotope. We are increasing biodiversity including birds, butterflies, amphibians and insects. We also have our own flock of Kempen heath sheep to manage the area and some beehives provide pollination. One of our employees is biologically trained; he has the area under his responsibility.
On the property, we have installed a biomass power plant, allowing us to operate completely without natural gas. Regarding electricity, we are self-sufficient for 90%; we have almost 800 solar panels on our premises. Our rainwater is collected in ponds and then injected back into the area.
